Italian vocalist, guitarist, music producer and mathematician Marshall Schneider is the founder of MELLIFRUGO and SOUND2次元, two alternative projects experiencing music as a pure stream of consciousness: an art expression free from schemes, clichés and fashions of contemporary society.

 

Marshall develops interest in music at the age of 15 starting playing the guitar and then growing up from 2004 to 2010 as vocalist and guitar player in alternative rock bands formed in his hometown in Italy. After developing an early interest in outsider music and indie rock artists like Elliott Smith, Smog, Nick Drake, Daniel Johnston, David Grubbs and Captain Beefheart, by osmosis Marshall consolidates his music into MELLIFRUGO a home-made recording of 27 experimental tracks released in the 2012.

 

In the later period MELLIFRUGO's shape evolves thanks to the collaborations with many independent musicians and artists, while Marshall starts taking part in social realities, militating for a short time at XM24, a self-managed collective center in Bologna, and later at AWARE, a cultural association for which he still plays an active role as programmer of music events and festivals, such as the FDCB. In 2020 he releases Live @ XM24, EP recorded on the 19th July 2019 during the live performance at the Gran Gala del Rumore, a no-profit festival organized by a collective of XM24. A few weeks later, on the 6th August 2019, XM24 is cleared out by the Municipality of Bologna and the recording becomes one of the last testimonies of the social center in via Fioravanti, the notable venue which gave it birth.

In 2021 Marshall moves to the Netherlands and approaches more electronic contaminations close to experimental ambient music. He Publishes in 2022 via BohReal? Records [IN]^3, a post-COVID dream journey which takes the form of a three-phase nightmare with unknown developments and marked by three main themes: loneliness (Naufragio #1), anxiety (Viola) and fear (Palido Pallido).

Developing major interest in electronic music, he hones his skills under the guidance of mentors such as Camiel Daamen, Giona Vinti and Davy Brandts.

From 2023 Marshall starts producing vaporwave/synthwave music and performing DJ-sets under the pseudonym SOUND2次元. On 2024 he becomes active in the vaporwave scene and releases singles on different underground compilations, such as Kodoku, SSCC Volume 5: Brief Glimpses of Quicksilver Dreams; or, Slush in a Rush and From Ashes to Heaven. On March 31 2024, Marshall also participates to the Sanctuary Live by Nostalgia Lounge, a streaming show supporting the TransOhio Relief Fund for transgender care in Ohio.

Currently, Marshall is producing his upcoming EP, Dreampunk Story, which will explore the theme of femicide within a cyberpunk imagery.
